Regripped

The preliminary stages for designing and implementing a resin spatula hilt.

Skills Applied: Clay Modeling, Laser Cutting, Molding & Casting, Sketching, Rapid Prototyping,
Tools Used: Rabbit Laser Cutter, Silicone Casting Kit, Sandpaper, Vacuum Chamber

My housemate always complained that he would burn his hand or have to use a pan holder to grip our all-metal spatula when he used it. I decided to make a handle that would integrate with the spatula in order to solve this. I decided to model the handle like a dagger hilt, which fits in the haunted house theme of our house and would cater to the eccentric tastes of everyone that lives here. I first modeled the part in clay, then made a mold and cast the hangle in resin around the spatula to mechanically bond the two and make the spatula both fun and more user friendly.

Unfortunately, I lost access to the resources I needed to see this project through to its completion, due to my campus shutting down. To finish this project properly, I would need to go through the mold making process again and obtain another spatula.
